Something Good

What’s a girl over 30 supposed to do? Seems the only way to keep up is to exercise, I’ve slacked so much I stopped running after a week’s attempt. I simply decided I did not like running in the hot sun, not one bit. Ironically I’ve picked up Bikram Yoga, which is yoga done in a HOT ROOM. up to 40 deg C to be exact.
You might think I’ve gone nuts.
I’m so into it I make it a point to get my ass into bed by 2am (sometimes I push it to 3am) so that I may have enough sleep before waking up for class. This is really teaching me to sleep earlier than I usually do (4, 5 or 6am on a normal day). I am beginning to feel the energy throughout the day, although I was constantly sleepy during my 2nd week of practice. Day after day, I can feel the strength in my mind and body. To go through 26 postures everyday might seem monotonous to some, but to challenge your body to do more than the day before is quite something. What might seem easy for me yesterday, I couldn’t do today, what I couldn’t do yesterday became easier today. I think I might have found the exercise I want to keep up with for a lifetime. I am learning to be patient with myself, never pushing beyond my limit but yet slowly challenging my strength and flexibility. Day by day, I keep myself focused.
It’s done wonders for my back, I sleep like a baby, and my skin looks GOOD. All that sweating detoxes the body. I’ve stopped looking around for pointers from others as I have more or less figured out what comes after each asana. I’ve stopped looking at others with envy when I can’t get into a certain pose, I now focus only on how I can best treat my body to reap the full benefits.
It’s wonderful to have something to look forward to every day. I now practice between 5 to 6 days a week. Researching on Bikram Yoga has really opened my eyes to what this form of yoga can do for me. I had stepped into class with only weight loss in mind, but now I am moving towards strengthening myself from inside out, learning how to move gracefully from one asana to another.
Spunkymonkee is grateful for for yoghurt, it’s totally yummy after class!
